Okay, so I get this a lot. “What am I supposed to do?”
I started getting pain. I woke up the other day, I had pain, or I did something I didn’t think was a major injury, but now I’ve got this sciatica.
I’ve got this back pain, and it’s been here for a week or two weeks.
Sometimes it’s been here for a couple of months, and I don’t know what to do because anytime I move this way or that way, it hurts.
I’ll tell you right now what you shouldn’t be doing.
You should not be trying to do new stretches or the stretches you did before that injury.
It doesn’t make sense.
If you’re already in pain, why are you trying to stretch something that was designed for you to not be in pain?
I can tell you right now your pain from this injury is not because you need to stretch a muscle.
If it was just from a muscle issue that would go away by itself within two weeks maximum, so that means it’s something else.
You don’t want to start working out.
All that you’re going to do is you’re going to work out to make your body strong enough to compensate for the issue, which is going to cause you worse problems later on.
What you do need to do is don’t minimize it.
Don’t take it lightly. Just get it checked out.
The quicker you get things checked out and take action on it, the better your results are going to be, but also the less treatment time it’s going to take.
If you get something checked out immediately when it happens, you’re going to have the best chance of getting it to heal as close to 100% as possible and make sure it doesn’t come back.
If you wait four weeks or six weeks or four months, now your body has changed its biomechanics.
It’s changed the way it moves, it’s changed its muscle memory.
We have to not only get the original issue to heal, but we have to retrain everything to move like you’re going to once the issue is back to where it was, once your body is back the way it was, once you’re moving the right way, we’re going to have to retrain all of that.
Don’t make more work for yourself. Get it checked out as soon as possible.
